6.20.10 Tom Behan II
Tom Behan II competed in the Michigan State Championship Time Trial Race on June 20th at the Hines Metropark in Detroit. He finished his 40k (24.85 mile) individual time-trial in 2nd place with a time of 57:29:61. In the time trial event, competitors are sent out one at a time at 30-second splits. It is an individual race against the clock for the fastest time over a set distance. Special aero-dynamic bikes, wheels, helmets, equipment, and techniques are used.
6.13.10 Tom Behan II & Justin Bassett
The BT&F Cycling Team of Harbor Springs/Petoskey competed recently in the Tour de Mont Pleasant road race on June 13th. Justin Bassett completed his 46 mile race in 6th position at 1:56:21 with a 35 mph pack sprint. Tom Behan II completed his 46 mile race in 14th position at 1:46:37. The terrain was flat and very fast, which suits Bassett's aggressive sprinting abilities.

Just wanted to share a brief report of the Harbor Springs Cycling Classic completed today. It seems we got the ride in during the best part of the day. The sun spurred us for the first 40 miles or so, and though there was a bit of wind pushing us north as we headed south for home on the the 64 mile route, we enjoyed every bit of it. Even falling temperatures and a bit of rain couldn't keep us from our appointed round with Wasson's Grade. I admit I dogged it a bit up the steeper parts of the grade but the cramps were creeping around my calves and my legs took the rule of my body from my brain.
The event was really nicely done and the stops were stocked with goodies (homemade cookies the whole way) and staffed by delightful people. Lunch was decidedly welcome back at the Birchwood. Though we were told that attendance was on the light side due to cold, wind, and threat of rain, the ride was special for me as it was my first cycling event of any kind--what a treat!
5.11.09
On Monday night, the TBCC set out on it's inaugural club ride (Countryside Local Ride.) The group pedaled 28 miles with an average pace of about 18 mph and consisted of Tom Sr., Tom II, Josh Baker, Will Baker, Kacey Marshall, and Bill Marshall. It was a perfect early summer evening with an awesome Petoskey sunset and a cool breeze off the bay. The route started at BT&F, headed NE toward Alanson, around the East side of Pickerel Lake, then back West toward Petoskey with rolling hills all the way and a big climb up Mitchell near the end. It was a fun ride, a good workout, and the first of many club rides to come!
3.29.09 Jennifer Jensen and Harry Colfer

The 2009 Fisk Knob time trial. In 30 degree weather, snow covered roads and wind gusts exceeding 20 mph, Harry T. Colfer MD and Jennifer Jensen set out to Grand Rapids to participate in the Fisk Knob event. The event was sponsored by the Fusion Cycling Team and is an event dedicated to the memory of a teammate, Tim Stersic. It was cold and windy but well run and well worth the effort. The course consisted of 28KM (17.3 miles) and covered hilly terrain, and even ending on a wicked uphill climb. "At one point I thought my front wheel was kicking up sand from the road and realized with a mixture of amusement and horror that it was snow pellets stinging my face," comments Jen.
Custom medals were awarded to the top 3 finishers in each category and cash awards to the top 5 men and top 3 women overall. Harry finished 6th in age group men 55+ and Jen finished 3rd (medaled) in age group
40+. The event had an excellent sense of camaraderie , as if there was a group consciousness to not let the elements 'win' the event. With all the beautiful bikes and amazing athletes at this event Jen believes the best feature was the presence of vegan soup in the food tent. "It was at that moment I realized what an evolved sport cycling really is." |
